The town of Holliston is located in Middlesex County. Its name is in honor of Thomas Hollis of London, a benefactor of Harvard College. Since it is a small town, it does not have public transit and it serves as a bedroom community for Boston. One interesting thing about the town is “The Legend of Balancing Rock”. There is a large rock that weighs over 5 tons located on the north side of Route 16. The rock appears to be balanced precariously on an outcrop of granite ledge. Legend has it, on 1789 while leading his entourage General George Washington came across the rock. Hr and his entourage tried to push the rock off its natural pedestal but were unsuccessful. The Balancing Rock still stands today
