Delivery of Flowers to Lakeville MA
The city is located in Plymouth County. It was inhabited by Native Americans for thousands of years before the colonization of the Americas by Europeans, and the city is a site with beautiful indigenous history. Soewampset is among the list of settlements in 1634 in New England. Assawompset Pond may have gotten its name from a former Wampanoag settlement. The town has a cemetery called the Wampanoag Royal Cemetery and is located in modern-day Lakeville, on a Peninsula between Great and Little Quittacas Pond. The body of John Sassamon, an advisor to Governor Josiah Winslow, was found beneath the ice of Assawompset pond in 1675. It was believed that he was killed, three Native Americans were arrested based on the testimony of one witness, and the three suspects were hanged contrary to English law that required two witnesses in a murder trial. After the sentencing was carried out, Tobias, a senior counselor to King Philip, and a second alleged accomplice were killed. The killing of John Sassamon and his trials and execution led to tensions between the English and indigenous groups.
The first non-native settlement was started in the area by a man named Peirce in 1705. He had many descendants, and by 1717, the population of the town had increased. It was later incorporated as a separate town in 1853. Benjamin's Simone was one of the residents who fought in the American Revolution. He was an aide de camp to George Washington. He was most likely part of one of the two militias in the area: the Pond Militia Company and the Beech Woods Company of MInutemen. Both groups were combined into Middlesbrough's Fourth Company of Foot. he later became a local celebrity because of his service and because he was the last full Wampanoag person to reside in Assawompset Pond. Ocean spray is also located in the city.
