The city is located in DuPage County. It has more than fourteen thousand residents. It is one of the Chicago megalopolis areas and in the Illinois Research and Technology Corridor. The city was named after Julius Warren when he moved with his family from New York, seeking a fresh start from a failing distillery and gristmill. His father, Daniel Warren, acquired the land which is presently known as McDowell Woods, and Julius acquired the land which is presently Warrenville Grove Forest Preserve. Warren himself, a tavern, and an inn were the first major achievements in the area. His family was skilled in grain and timber production. The inn is still in existence and up to date. The city blossomed quickly with a plank road and two mills connecting it with Winfield and Naperville. Julius used it to operate a stagecoach line, as the town was not connected with the railroad. The area was incorporated as a city in 1967, and this brought westward expansion from Chicago city, causing the latter city, a small farming community, to double in population. The city is home to Durham School Services, a company built as a result of Navistar leaving the city.

The City's Schools

The city is one of Community Unit School District 200 and shares twenty schools with Wheaton. Johnson or Bower elementary school serves the residents of the community. The schools that the residents  attend include St. Irene Catholic School, Hubble Middle School, Four Winds Waldorf School, and Wheaton  South High School. The Hubble middle school building is one of the buildings to meet the LEED certification standard for energy-efficient design. Illinois Youth Center is also located in the city, and it is a correctional facility for female juvenile offenders.

The Warrenville Public Library District is located in the city, and it is a volunteer library that was constructed with donated materials. It later closed due to a lack of funding and volunteers, and a renovation project commenced, which revived the library. The library district is a member of the DuPage Library System.
