Whitfield or commonly known as Whitfield Estates among the locals, is a town in Manatee County, Florida. For statistical reasons, the town is considered a census-designated place- CDP by the US Census Bureau.At the 2010 census, it was found that the total population of the CDP was 2822. The CDP is a part of the North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton Metropolitan Statistical Area. It receives its mail from the Sarasota post office located in Sarasota County. Whitfield Estates was formerly a 682-acre wooded area that had been homesteaded by General John Riggin. The town's history dates back to the time after World War II, and after the war, the community experienced a true housing boom. Whitfield Estates, located near the Sarasota Army Airfield, was a popular post-war settlement for families. This helped Whitfield Estates experience a resurgence as people started moving to the area in the mid-1940s, and now the town has many historic buildings, and many of them are now registered on the National Register of Historic Places.
