Located within the confines of Broward County is the city of Davie. It is a large city with a population of over 100,000 residents. The city conveys a very western feel where horseback riding is common and there are also various ranches scattered within its confines. The land was originally home to the Tequesta Native Americans and historical finds of their past have been found in the community some dating back 7,000 years. The current community was founded by Tamara Toussaint and Jake Tannebaum. It was originally called Zona but the area began to blossom when developer R. P. Davie started drawing the swampland and developing the area. When he built a school in the community the grateful residents named the town after him.

Davie has always had a western feel and many of its earliest buildings have a western architecture. Many of its residents still own horses and it was once home to herds of cattle.

The Davie School which opened in 1917 and was designed by prominent architect August Geiger and was the first permanent school in the Everglades and is the oldest school building in the county. The school was in use till 1980 and is now preserved and restored as a historical landmark.

Higher Learning Institutions have a major impact on the life of the city. It hosts the South Florida Educational Center and is home to many colleges and universities such as Nova Southeastern University, Florida Atlantic University, Broward College and Trinity International University to name a few.
