The town of Superior is located in Boulder County and has an uninhabited area that extends into Jefferson County. It has a coal mining history, and the first mines in the area were developed in the 19th century. The first coal discovery took place on the Hake family farm, and some of the recollections of the initial or pioneer families in the town are kept in the Maria Rogers Oral History Program at Carnegie Library of Local History in Boulder.

The Economy of the Town

It got its name due to the superior quality of coal that was mined in the town. Mining was a major economic base in the town's history till the closure of the Industrial Mine in 1945, which led to a drastic reduction in the population of the town due to a lack of jobs. The inability of the residents of the town to find an alternative source of income led to many residents leaving. The remaining residents of the town evolved into a farming and ranching town and the economic base of the town switched from a coal mining town to an agricultural village.

The community has two public schools, namely Eldorado PK-8 and Superior Elementary, under the Boulder Valley School District, and students attend the Monarch High School. The schools in the town are equipped with good facilities to ensure that students learn in a good and quality environment, and they participate in games such as volleyball, basketball, soccer, etc.
