Port Hadlock- Irondale is a town in northeastern Jefferson County in the US state of Washington. It is a census-designated place- CDP, which means that it is not an incorporated municipality, and the Census Bureau has given it this title for statistical reasons. The town's population at the 2010 census was 3580, and the area is 7.8 square miles. The CDP is located on the Quimper Peninsula and includes two separate Iron dale and Port Hadlock communities. A part of Chimacum is also considered a part of this CDP. Irondale is on the northeast edge of the CDP, and Port Hadlock is next to it in the east part of the CDP. Chimacum is on the southern edge of the CDP. The Irondale community has a rich history of iron-producing, and the first blast furnace in Washington was founded in this area in the late 18th century. Samuel Hadlock founded the Port Hadlock. Port Hadlock founder moved west in 1846, finally settling in the Port Hadlock area in 1870. He contracted with the Washington Mill Company to build a sawmill on a small piece of land, and he successfully established a lumber mill here.
