The city is located in Juan and Utah counties. It is one of the Provo-Orem megalopolis areas. It is also one of the early settlements along the Salt Lake road and was initially called Summit City due to its position close to the summit of the division between Juab Valley and Utah Valley. Before it became Santaquin, Summit city was settled by pioneers who wanted to settle close to Payson. It was renamed "Santaquin" after a local native chieftain's son, Santaquin, who was friendly with the residents. The community was incorporated as a town and then was changed to a city eventually. A notable person in the history of the community is Gary Coleman, who is an actor. A week-long celebration called Orchard Days is always held yearly with a multitude of activities, including a rodeo, parade, scavenger hunt, carnival, cherry pit spit, car show, grand parade, pie-eating contest, and several other family-friendly activities. The city is on the southern edge of Utah County, which extends slightly into Juab County. It is a small town in the Wasatch Range region of Utah. It hugs the foundation of Utah Valley, so it is generally considered the southernmost community in the Wasatch Range. Although the city appears to be a rural farming community with a lot of orchards and farms in the area, many people who live in the community travel to work in other areas in the valley such as Springville, Payson, or Provo.

The Museum

Santaquin Chieftain Museum is an amazing sight to behold in the city and is probably the most outstanding local museum. It is filled to the brim with recent memorabilia, pioneer relics, and daily items chronicling the history of the city. It shows well-crafted displays and exhibits. The museum is situated in the old elementary school close to the pioneer cabins. Another stunning sight is the pioneer cabin which was refurbished to hold pioneer relics. A fantastic sight to behold is the Santaquin Canyon which is well known for mixed climbing and ice climbing.
