The city is located in Greenville County, South Carolina, and it has a population of more than 25,000 residents. The first land grant was awarded to Benjamin Griffith in 1784 for the area now called Mauldin. The town's name was given to it almost accidentally by South Carolina's lieutenant governor, W.L Mauldin. Because the lieutenant governor facilitated the construction of the railway through the town, the train station was named after him "Mauldin" station. As the years went by, the entire area was named Mauldin. Unfortunately, a majority of the citizens went to fight during the Civil War, and the city was almost empty. It took years for the town to recover. It was later incorporated as a town in 1960. The BI-LO supermarket chain was founded in the city, and it was the home to its headquarters until 2011.
