It is a borough located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania., and has a population of more than 3,000 residents, and it is located approximately north of Philadelphia. The two-lane New Hope-Lambertville Bridge, a major transport route, carries foot traffic and automobiles across the Delaware River to Lambertville. The primary industry of the community is tourism. The city is located along the Old York Road, the former highway between New York City and Philadelphia. It was regarded as the halfway point, and travelers stayed overnight in the town and ferried across the Delaware River the next day. The town was first called Coryell's Ferry, which was named after the owner of the ferry business. The current name was obtained after a major fire incident in 1790 that led to the destruction of several mills in the town.  George Washington is said to have spent the night in the community before crossing the Delaware River the following day, after which he destroyed the ferry to ensure that the British would not be able to follow him. These events happened after the battles of Trenton and Princeton when the British forces were sweeping the entire area with British troops. Many structures in the city still claim to have British ordnance that is unexploded in their roof beams. Some of the former historic residents include Aaron Burr and James A. Michener.
