Sending Fresh Flowers to Jamestown, NC

Jamestown is located in Guilford County, North Carolina, and is a suburb of nearby High Point and Greensboro. The city has a population of more than 4,000 residents. The Keyauwee tribe were the first settlers in the area, and they had abundant natural resources, a mild climate, and fertile hunting grounds in the area. The Keyauwee tribe later moved southward towards the Carolinas in the 1760s.

The 18th century witnessed another group of settlers, the Quaker families who moved to the area from Pennsylvania in search of land for farming activities. One of the initial settlers, James Mendenhall, moved out of the community in 1775, but his son remained in the area. He later named the village that he founded Jamestown in honor of his father.

In the 19th century, the community was a growing settlement with more than 150 residents and facilities such as an inn, Freemasons lodge, and a post office. During that time, gold was discovered close to the community, and a lot of mines started to pop up in the area. In 1811, Richard, the son of James Mendenhall, started the Mendenhall Plantation. which is a tourist attraction today. The Jamestown Rifle was also manufactured in the community. It is a sturdy and accurate muzzle loading gun, and it is still sought after by gun collectors today.

The Jamestown's Quakers generally opposed war and violence, and during the American Civil War, they chose to remain neutral, but the Confederates demanded that those capable of making weapons, shoes, and uniforms do so or risk paying heavy taxes. Records show that Confederate President Jefferson Davies passed through the town with his entourage during the retreat after the Civil War ended. Prior to the war, the town was also known as a stop for the Underground Railroad.

During 1960, the town grew rapidly, with farmlands becoming neighborhoods. A liquor store was also constructed, and an ABC board was formed, enabling the town to pay off its existing debt incurred while constructing a sewer and water line. The funds also helped to fund the construction of a Golf Course and Jamestown Park.

The Community's Schools

Mills Road Elementary School opened in 1961 and started with 360 students, a part-time librarian, and 12 teachers. The reason for opening the school was to relieve the overpopulation in the Jamestown district. The school has a capacity of more than 560 students and has witnessed a surge in student population over the years. Avas Flowers offers delivery of beautiful flowers to the school, we have a wide variety of floral arrangements, and our prices are affordable. Visit our website to choose from our collection today.
