Sending Flowers to Connellys Springs, NC
The town is one of the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton megalopolis statistical areas. The first settler in the community was William Lewis Connelly, a colonel in the North Carolina militia, and the city was named after him. Colonel Connelly operated a way station and constructed a log home where fresh horses could be made available for the stagecoach line through Salisbury to Asheville.
Borders who intended to spend the night after or during a long journey used the station and logged home. The settlement grew up around the way station, and a post office was established in the city. The community had a mineral spring that was thought to be very beneficial in healing many diseases. Mrs. Elmira Connelly had her own spring, and people arrived by wagons, horses, and trains. The spring led to the construction of the hotel in the city. The construction was along the railroad tracks and was close to the mineral spring. This development made the town known as Connellys Springs after its incorporation.
