Malcolm J. Blue was the elected postmaster for the first post office, and Allison F. Page purchased several forested lands to construct a rail line and to clear the land for timber. It was later sold to James Walker Tufts, which turned it into the historic golf resort, Pinehurst Resort. Blue's Crossing's name was changed to Aberdeen in 1888. The main occupation in the town was tobacco farming. The city's proximity to Pinehurst resulted in a boom in the retirement and tourism industries, which remain an important part of the economy. The city's National Register of Historic Places includes John Blue House, Bethesda Presbyterian Church, the Aberdeen Historic District, and Malcolm Blue Farm. Aberdeen Creek is a tributary to Drowning Creek or Lumber River, and it flows through the middle of the city.
