The Middle Island is a hamlet and also a census-designated place in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County in New York, and it has a population of more than 11,000 residents. The community is situated between Ridge and Coram to the town's west and east while Rocky Point and Yaphank are located north and south of the town. The name is derived because of where it was sited in the western and eastern end of Long Island. The city has a European American history that dates back to 1766 when the first Presbyterian church was opened by Rev. David Rose, a pastor, and doctor of the South Haven Church. He covered his parish on horseback, and he filled the saddle back with medicine and Bibles for his congregation on the frontier. 

The parish created a cemetery opposite the church. Jonathan Edwards, a French and Indian war veteran, loved the white pine trees at the site. He took the seedlings and started to plant them in the Middle Island Miller Place Road area. Many pine trees were planted in the Middle island community. A local farmer William Dayton took some of the pine cones from their initial location and brought them to his farm in the south in what is now referred to as Middle Country Road. The areas close to Willam Davis farmstead are now a part of Prosser Pines and Cathedral Pines County Parks.

The first schoolhouse was constructed in 1813, and a new church was also built-in 1837. It was constructed in the rear of the previous church, and it served the town for more than 200 years till the construction of the Christian Education building at the Longwood Estate in 1966. The following parks are the town, namely Prosser Pines Nature Preserve, Cathedral Pines County Park, Spring Lake Golf Club, Middle Island Country Club, and Mill Pond Golf Course. The schools are under the jurisdiction of the Longwood Central School District, and the town also has the Longwood Public Library.
