The City of Hugo is located in Minnesota. It is north of White Bear Lake, and has a population of 14,767. The city and its surrounding suburbs make up the northeast area of Minneapolis-St. Paul, the sixteenth largest metropolitan area in the country. The city's first settlers were French Canadians, the Burlington Northern Railroad formerly called St. Paul and Duluth Railroad was built through the town in 1868, because of the closeness of the railroad station to Centerville. The area got the name Centerville Station. 258 people came together to incorporate the area as the village of Hugo in 1906.

The village continued to exist as a railroad community and small farming village for more than 66 years.
