Delivery of Beautiful Floral Arrangement to Williamston, MI

The town is located in Ingham County and has more than four thousand residents. The city's center is split by the Red Cedar River, and its neighboring communities are Lansing City, Williamstown Township, and Wheatfield Township. The area started as the crossroad of the Saginaw Indian Trails and Grand River and was occupied by the Saginaw tribe of the Chippewa People. The small band used the area as a 'summer village' and wintered in the area to become Meridian Township. Williamston was used to bury the dead, plant crops, and hold an annual spring gathering. They used the land just north of the Red Cedar River and settled when Joseph and Hiram Putnam moved to the area. Joseph and Hiram planted and harvested crops of oats, then Williamston Road became Putnam street to honor them. It was misspelled as "Putman Street" for several years until they sold their land to Horace B. Williams, James M., and Oswald B. Williamston was therefore named after James M. "Miles" Williams. When he constructed a sawmill, a dam, and a grist mill in the town, he named it after himself, and the reason for the loss of the "w" in Williamston is still unknown up till today. Grand River Avenue passes through downtown because the town was a popular stop on the Grand River trail from Detroit to Lansing.

The town's main means of transportation were horse and buggy before the community became a convenient overnight stop. The city was incorporated in 1871, and the history of the town was published for its centennial celebration. The celebration included stories of the early city and photographs of its inhabitants. The city's economy is a typical bedroom community economy, and its residents travel to larger local cities where there is employment, such as East Lansing, Okemos, or Lansing. Williamston town formerly adopted farming as an occupation until the community declined. Although not many residents engage in farming, the surrounding area still involves the occupation. The community is in the mid-Michigan area and is known for its specialty shops and antique stores in the downtown area. The town has town golf courses, the Wheatfield Valley Golf Course and Brookshire Restaurant, and Golf Course; it also has an old-style single-screen movie theater called The Sun Theater and a live theater called Williamston Theater. The city has restaurants, a Capital Area District Library, a market, the Sun Theater, a grocery store, small clothing stores, special interest shops, boutiques, and antique dealers.

Schools in Community

The town houses the Meridian Mall located close to Okemos, and its largest employer is the Williamston Community Schools. The town has an appointed city manager and a seven-member City Council which is responsible for all policy-making and legislation in the town. The council elects the Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem of the town. The Williamston Community School District serves the city's residents, and the schools include Williamston Middle School, Explorer Elementary School, Discovery Elementary School,  High School, Memorial Lutheran, and St. Mary School. Avas Flowers delivers to the schools in the community, and kindly visit our website for more information.
