The town began to grow cranberries to farm, and the farmers in the town raised a large portion of cranberries grown in the entire United States which is still the primary business in the city. Another boost to the city was connecting a railroad line to Boston and New York. Savery's Avenue is located in the community and is the first divided highway in America that William Savery officially opened. The outside of the road and trees between the streets were used as ornaments and shade for its citizens.
