The city is located in Caldwell County in Kentucky and has more than seven thousand residents. The land on which the town lies was donated to Virginian William Prince for his service during the Revolutionary War and was at the head of Eddy Creek. William Prince settled in Livingston County before it was changed to Caldwell County, and constructed a brick home, Shandy Hall, and a tavern. A new courthouse was provided for the newly formed Caldwell County and was relocated to Eddyville. The county court accepted the proposal, and the new community was named Princetown but later shortened to Princeton. Princeton College was undergoing construction after the establishment of the town but was delayed because of the Civil War. One of the buildings of the college was used as a hospital to treat the soldiers wounded during the War, and Union soldiers occupied the town for the remainder of the War. The city became a major junction of different railway lines because of the expansion of railroads in the city. The notable railway lines were the Illinois Central and the L&N, and the town was at the center of the Black Patch Tobacco Wars.

Educational Facilities in the City

The University of Kentucky Research and Education Center is located in the community and is a campus of the University of Kentucky's College of Agriculture. The city hosts the Black Patch Festival and features a variety of games, festival foods, and activities. A gospel concert is always held at the First Baptist Church during the festival named after "Black Patch" tobacco in northwest Tennessee and western Kentucky. Caldwell County became an important tobacco-growing area because of the boom, and the monopolization of the tobacco market by James B. Duke left many farmers in debt. 

Capitol Cinemas is the theater that runs first-run films and holds special events for church, school, and community events in the city. Big Springs Park is a large, natural spring that flows from a cave located at the center of downtown. The city's founder selected this area as his home. He constructed his home above the spring and established a sawmill near it. The park is a certified site owned by the city and accessible to vacationers. The Caldwell County Schools System serves the city's residents and the school in the city is Caldwell County High School. The community has a public library, a George Coon Public Library branch.
