Pineville city is located in Bell County in Kentucky and is a home rule-class city. The town is the county seat of Bell County and has more than two thousand residents. Pineville is located on a strip of land between the Pine Mountain and Cumberland River. Pineville was established as Cumberland Ford and formed a portion of Gov. Isaac Shelby's land tracts. The courthouse was not completed, so the settlement was renamed "Pineville," and one of the earliest groups of the Sojourner Truth Woman's Christian Temperance Union was established in the city. The group has fifteen members and was affiliated with the white women's branch of Kentucky. The city is prone to flooding and other devastating incidents.

The flooding destroyed and damaged many houses, and the United States Army Corps of Engineers constructed a flood wall. Their main source of economy is the coal mining industry, and many residents operate family-owned businesses and engage in tourism. The residents also visit the Pine Mountain State Resort Park, where the popular attraction "Chained Rock" is located. The Main Street Pineville community organization has really made great efforts in revitalizing downtown Pineville to its historical roots.

Pineville city hosts the Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival, named after the Mountain Laurel flower cultivated on Pine Mountain. The festival is held every Memorial Day weekend, and the first of its kind was celebrated at the suggestion of Ms. Annie Walker Burns. Ms. Burns is a descendant of Dr. Thomas Walker, the first resident in Kentucky from Europe, and met with a party of explorers to visit the present settlement of Pineville. The beauty and history surrounding the city captivated Ms. Burns, and she appealed to Governor Flem D. Sampson from Barbourville to celebrate a type of event to honor Dr. Walker. She had the support of other prominent Bell Countians, and the festival was hosted at Clear Creek Springs.
