It is located in Sedgwick County Kansas and is a suburb of Wichita. It has more than twelve thousand residents. "The peach capital of Kansas" is the city's nickname. The town was named after W.W. Hays when he came to the area in 1870. He divided the land so that a town could be built. The Haysville State Bank was built in 1919. Their main livelihood was truck farming. It supported a lot of families in the area. Corn harvest in the area was processed through a grist mill built on the bank of the Cowskin River. The first school was established in 1876. It was near the water department facilities.

The Kansas, Chicago, and Nebraska Railway Company established a branch line north-south to Caldwell from Herrington through the community. Most local residents referred to the railroad as the "Rock Island." In 1999, a tornado struck the city killing several people and causing damage to structures and businesses. Haysville's historic district was destroyed. The only surviving structure was the original bank vault on the east side.
