The village of Stickney is located in Cook County and was named after Alpheus Beede Stickney. The village is located in Illinois, and Alpheus was a railroad executive who played a major role in establishing the Clearing Industrial District. Stickney was a native of Maine and was the first president of the Chicago Great Western Railway.

The Stickney Water Reclamation Plant is the largest wastewater treatment plant in the world and is located within the community. This plant is operated by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
