The city of Ammon is located in Bonneville County. Ammon is known as "Where Tomorrow Begins" and is a suburb city located directly between the city of Idaho Falls on the west and the Ammon foothills on the east. The city was established by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was made a ward in the church. Arthur M. Rawson, the bishop, renamed the town in honor of Ammon, a figure in the Book of Mormon and LDS book of scripture. The name of the city was changed from South Iona Ward to Ammon since it became independent of the Iona Ward.

Development of the Community

The city was formerly an early agricultural center and later was home to a grain elevator, several general stores, and a brickyard. The town became a Second Class City under Idaho law after it was officially incorporated, and housing divisions helped in the growth of the city. The community is a suburb of the adjacent city of Idaho Falls, and housing and businesses have grown.
