The city is located in Barrow County in Georgia. It has a population of more than 12,000 residents and the first permanent settlement started in 1882. It is named after Harrison Braselton, a farmer that married Susan Hosch, whose father was a rich plantation owner. He built a home on more than 786 acres of land that he obtained from the  Hosch Plantation. The area he purchased was later named Braselton. In 1989 an actress and a native of Georgia, Kim Basinger, with a couple of other investors, bought close to two thousand acres of land to convert it into a tourist attraction. But due to financial issues and bankruptcy, it was sold for less than it was purchased for one million dollars. The town has a police department, a fire station, and a post office. The Town also has a hospital that the Northeast Georgia Health System built. It is the first new hospital in the state of Georgia in the last twenty years.

One of the exciting recreational areas in the community is the Mulberry River Walk. The Town believes the Mulberry River and its banks are important and should be sufficiently preserved and protected for that purpose. The Town acquired more than 200 acres of land along the river bank. They have also constructed a walking path, gardens, picnic spots, etc. They created a policy of using no chemicals along the river bank. It is tagged as a naturalized area.
