Bouquets of Roses Delivered to Auburn, GA

The city had its plate drawn and was surveyed in 1891 by the Georgia-Carolina and Northern Railroad, and the rail line cuts across the city. It was a terminal for staff of the railroad company that was operating multiple routes daily from Auburn to Athens. Different warehouses and railroad buildings were located in different parts of the town to serve both the families and the railroad in the city. After the Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1781, various efforts were made to encourage settlers to relocate to the state of Georgia. A lot of free land was given to war veterans. Lands east of the Apalachee River were shared using the headright system, which translated to several acres of land given to the head of the family and 50 acres per child. In contrast, lands west of the Apalachee were shared using a lottery system in 1805 and the town was in these areas, and many people wanted to own land in the region.

The following families were and are still influential in the community, namely: Anthony, Osborn, Flanigan, Camp, Blakey, Elder, Morgan, Cain, Poole, Burels, Bates, Parks, Pharrs, Mitchell, Hawthorne, Perry, Pierce, Patricks, Millers, Jacksons, Moore, Maugham, Collins and Sloan. 1830 to 1860 was a very prosperous era for the town as the land was very cheap and every community had its own individual school, church, and store. Stores in the area usually served as the post for mail delivered every two weeks, and members of the community were friendly and helpful. Activities like house raising, log rolling, and corn shucking brought community members together for both fun and work. Most clothes were made at home.

Schools in the Community

The Baptists opened a school in the city after Mulberry Academy moved to the area. It was a large structure with a two-story building. The newly constructed school started operation in 1888 after it was mentioned in Lawrenceville's paper. The town has two papers called the Auburn Messenger and Claxon Monthly. Students from different parts of the state came to the town. The status of the school was elevated to a college in 1894. Ten acres of land were given for the development of the school by J.O Hawthorne and J.J Wages. The agreement was if the land donated was used by the school, it would return back to the donors. The school was later closed in 1924. The city has 11 cemeteries and Avas Flowers offers delivery of flowers to all the cemeteries in the town for either burial, memorials, or special occasions. We offer a wide collection of floral arrangements to meet your needs. Visit our website for more information.
