Dumont was founded in 1907 by C.S Woods of the Western Land Company who built a post office in 1910. In addition, the community has a lot of recreation facilities, modern exercise equipment, a library, and a hospital. Nearby attractions include the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, the San Jacinto battleground, and Hobby Airport.
