Birdsboro is sited along the Schuylkill River in Berks County, Pennsylvania. The town is notable for large machine shops and the large foundries today. An ironmaker called William Bird made the city's name come into play, he created a forge on Hay creek. Hopewell Furnace is a notable place in the town founded by William's son, Marcus. It was the most prominent local producer of iron by the American Revolution. There were other significant features in the city, such as the Schuylkill canal, and the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad was also there to transport black coal. The Birdsboro Iron Foundry Company later became the Birdsboro Steel Company, established by descendants of the Birds whose names are Edward and George Brooke. A plant built by Armorcast Corporation manufactured tanks for World War II and the Korean War. The population later increased to 5,163 at the 2010 census due to all those significant features in the city aiding development.

The transportation routes in the city are Pennsylvania Route 724, which is Birdsboro's Main Street, and Pennsylvania Route 345, which leaves north from the middle of town and stretches the Schuylkill River to the U.S. Route 422 in Baumstown.
