Washington florists deliver to many of the 6.7 million residents. Arrangements are needed for events such as parties and weddings. They may also be used for funerals, memorials and tribute services.

The Pacific or Coast Rhododendron is the official floral symbol. This evergreen species is native to parts of western North America. It was used as an entry to the World's Fair in 1893 by local women.

Olympia, the capital, is the cultural hub for the Puget Sound area. Incorporated in 1859, it is now home to over 40,000 inhabitants. It is now a hub for artists and musicians attending the local college.

Seattle is the biggest and best known city in this northwestern state. It has many attractions that draw tourists from around the world. It is home to 600,000 residents with 3.4 million in the metro region.

Seattle has several major hospitals, including a children's hospital. Florists typically deliver blooms to the children's hospital daily. Unique arrangements, including fun toy bouquets are often chosen.

Florist services can be found in many gift shops as well as stores. This allows parents to find an arrangement for sick children quickly. Relatives may also choose to use these services to send best wishes.

There are 31 wildernesses fully or partially located in Washington. These are federally protected and include Glacier Peak and Goat Rocks. Many national wildlife refuges have also been established there.

The Pacific Rhododendron often blooms with a vibrant shade of pink. It was selected as the flower by women before the right to vote. It was then used as an entry for the Chicago World's Fair in 1893.

It can most often be found in wild lands and along many roadsides. This shrub can grow between six to eighteen feet tall at its maturity. Olive green fern like leaves are present and appear for many years.

While pink is the most common, some mutations and variations occur. This species is often less lush and vibrant than its relatives. For this reason, Washington florists use other species for bouquets.
