Raceland is a small beautiful city in Greenup County, Kentucky. The town is considered a part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is a home rule-class city with a total population of 2424, and the area of the city is 2.5 square miles. The city's history dates back to the 17th century when Englishman Abraham Buford was granted 5,000 acres (20 km2) in South Louisiana for his military service. The land was then passed down from owner to owner until an estate sale gave one of those tracts to Benjamen Chinn, who sold his tract of town lots. The town was named after him and called "Chinnville." The town's first post office was founded on March 7, 1910, and it became an incorporated city in 1915. Living here offers its residents a suburban rural mix environment, and the homeownership rate is high. The school system is excellent with all kinds of conveniences available to the kids.
