Pembroke is located in Robeson County North and is about ninety miles from the Atlantic Coast with over three thousand residents; it is the state's official area for the Lumbee tribe and home of North Carolina University of North Carolina Pembroke. The town had the construction of Campbells Mill in 1860 in Robeson County making it the year that the east-west line of the Charlotte and Rutherford Railroad went through the town. No train station was developed, which did not allow the community to grow appropriately. This might have been due to more prominent communities like Pates and Moss Neck. The Wilmington and Weldon Railroad was moved to Campbell's Mill; a train station was then built. As a result, the city became a commerce center because private holders bought it.
Education in the Community
It was incorporated as the town of Pembroke in 1895. A general store, Pates Supply Company, became the most extensive business in the city, and as a result of other developments, the town became a thriving center for commerce. The city's national register of historic places included the University of North Carolina, The Old Main, and Pembroke High School. The community holds the North Carolina Lumbee tribe; this is the largest state-acknowledged tribe east of the Mississippi River that doesn't have a reservation. Indian Normal School is a master's degree university in the city; it is also one of the seventeen schools in the North Carolina system. It is situated in the city, and it registers over seven thousand students. According to the World Report and U.S. News, Pembroke has been seen as the most conservative place in North Carolina.
