How to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Style

How to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Style

10Monday March 10th 2014

Gathering with friends on St. Patrick’s Day is a great way to welcome spring. I love all of the possibilities that come with planning a St. Patrick’s Day party. Irish-themed music, food and drink combine to make for an enjoyable celebration. In my blog this week, I want to share some ideas with you on how to go about celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in style!

St. Patrick’s Day Party Theme Ideas

If you’re looking for a way to take the stress out of planning your St. Patrick’s Day party, you can do one of two things: You can either hire me to do the planning for you or you can plan your party around one feature. For example, you may want to make the food and drink the focus of the party. Offer guests things like green beer, lime punch, spinach dip, and green tortilla chips or cupcakes with green frosting. You get the picture. Luckily, there are many types of food and drink that will add some St. Patrick’s Day flair to your party.

A second idea is to plan your party around Irish music. Find some CDs of traditional Irish music and play them in the background. The music of Celtic Woman is one option. Other options include Irish rock bands and singers such as U2, Sinead O’Connor, and The Cranberries. Along with featuring Irish music, you could decorate your home with posters featuring Irish musicians.

A third idea is to ask your guests to dress in green for your St. Patrick’s Day bash. Get some fun leprechaun hats and bow ties to pass out at the party. As the host, be sure to put in a lot of time and effort on your own costume. Allow your guests to vote on the best costume of the night!

Another fun idea is to plan a St. Patrick’s Day party around a movie. This is a good choice if you’re hosting a small gathering of friends. Choose a film that is set in Ireland or one that has Irish characters. Some of my suggestions include Waking Ned Devine(1998), An Everlasting Piece (2000), Leap Year (2010), or Ondine (2009). There are both comedies and dramas included in that list, so go with what will please your guests.

My last party idea is to set up a pub in your home. Decorate your kitchen with posters of famous places in Ireland and serve Irish drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Irish whiskey cocktails, Guinness, Irish mocktails, and lime/ginger ale punch are all appealing options. Be sure to dress the part of a local Irish pub owner and have plenty of pub snacks on hand.

St. Patrick’s Day Decorations

The planning for a St. Paddy’s Day party is not complete until you set the right tone for the celebration. There are printables both large and small that can add the finishing touches to the occasion. Put labels on your treats to make them stand out on the refreshment table. Give away goodies to your guests that will make them ask for an invitation to next year’s St. Paddy’s Day party! Sometimes it’s the little details that can make your party a hit with every guest.

St. Patrick’s Day Recipes

A memorable selection of desserts, appetizers, and drinks will put your party over the top! It doesn’t necessarily have to be green, but it does have to be delicious. Put out a variety of items to please the palates of all of your guests. Vegan items and non-alcoholic drinks should be included in your menu. Check out these recipes for some inspiration:

Take advantage of some of these ideas and you won’t need a four-leaf clover to make your party a great success. Cheers! – Sophie
